Our veterinarians provide urgent care for pets and large animals during our regular business hours. After hours, our on-call vets provide emergency services to current patients of New Ulm Regional Veterinary Center, Nicollet Veterinary Clinic, and Kind Veterinary Clinic.
Please note: New Ulm Regional Veterinary Center only accepts after-hours emergency calls for companion animals until 10 pm. If your pet needs emergency care after 10 pm, contact one of these local veterinary emergency clinics.

Emergency Veterinary Services for Pets
If your animal is showing any symptoms or behaviors which are concerning you, contact New Ulm Regional Veterinary Center right away. Once your animal has been evaluated, we will provide a treatment plan for services at our clinic or refer your pet to another location that provides 24-hour care.
Steps to Take In A Pet Emergency
If you are experiencing a veterinary emergency, follow the steps below.
- Call Ahead - Emergency care for new patients is offered during our regular business hours, after hours please call one of the animal emergency hospitals detailed above. Emergency care for existing patients of New Ulm Regional Veterinary Center, Nicollet Veterinary Clinic, or Kind Veterinary Clinic is available until 10pm. After 10pm contact one of the emergency hospitals above.
- Follow Instructions Provided - You may be provided instructions to help you apply first aid or make your animal companion as comfortable as possible. Make sure you follow these instructions as carefully as possible.
- Remain Calm - Remain calm and be extra careful around your pet. When an animal is in pain they often react negatively towards anyone trying to help and could bite or scratch. Do not put yourself at risk! If instructed to do so, safely bring your pet to New Ulm Regional Veterinary Center or one of the after-hours emergency vet locations above.

- Do I need to call ahead?
New Ulm Regional Veterinary Center provides emergency and urgent veterinary care for dogs and cat during our regular business hours and evening emergency hours from 7am - 10pm.
We provide 24/7 emergency services to large animals.
It's always best for you to contact us in advance of coming to our veterinary center, but we know that isn't always possible.
If we are unable to fit your pet into our schedule, we recommend that you visit either of the after-hours emergency vet locations shown above.
- Do you provide after hours-emergency care for large animals?
Yes, our on call veterinarians are available 24/7 to provide emergency care for large animals.

- When is your clinic open for companion animal emergencies?
Our veterinarians see emergency cases for current patients during our regular business hours and on an emergency on-call basis from 5:30pm - 10pm Monday - Friday, 1pm - 10pm Saturdays, and 8am - 10pm Sundays.
- When is your clinic open for large animals emergencies?
Our veterinarians see emergencies for large animals like horses, goats, cattle, sheep, llamas, and pigs 24/7/365.
- What if my pet has ingested poison?

- What situations require emergency veterinary care?
The following situations are examples of emergencies that require immediate care:
- Seizures and/or staggering
- Refusal to drink for 24 hours or more
- Unconsciousness
- Severe bleeding or bleeding that doesn't stop
- Obvious signs of pain or extreme anxiety
- Choking, difficulty breathing, or continuous coughing/gagging
- Fractured bones or severe lameness
- Bleeding from nose, mouth, rectum, or blood in the urine
- Inability to urinate or pass feces, or pain associated with urinating or passing feces
- Severe vomiting or diarrhea; 2+ episodes in 24-hours
- Injuries to the eye(s)
- Your pet has ingested something poisonous (such as antifreeze, xylitol, chocolate, rodent poison, etc.)
- Heat stress or heatstroke
- How long will we have to wait to see the vet?
Our New Ulm veterinary center is just like a human doctor's office—it can be unpredictable and you may have to wait.
We cannot predict what cases we will see and when they will arrive. If possible, call ahead to find out whether we are able to provide emergency care for your dog, cat, or large animal.
