Care for Puppies & Kittens
Bringing home a new kitten or puppy is an exciting time! This new cuddly and cute family member can't help but to make all who interact with them smile.
As fun as your new pet may be, there is also some serious health care business you will need to take care of throughout your pet's first year of life.
Your veterinarian will develop a custom health care plan in order to meet your pet's unique needs throughout their first year as well as providing you with guidance and support all along the way.
Your Pet’s First Appointment
Your new puppy or kitten should have their first veterinary appointment at about eight weeks of age.
At this first visit, your pet will receive a comprehensive physical examination in order to assess their overall health, to search for signs of congenital defects and to check their coat for external parasites.
We will also administer deworming medications for intestinal parasites like hookworms or roundworms, as well as your kitten or puppy's first round of vaccinations.
More About Vaccines & Prevention
Finally, for your kitten, we will perform a blood test in order to check for signs of feline immunodeficient virus and feline leukemia.
Followup Appointments
Puppies and kittens should attend 3 veterinary appointments between the ages of 8 and 16 weeks. These visits allow our vets to assess your pet's overall health and to administer vaccines on schedule.
